Abstract

The research aimed to understand the concept of biophilia as a spontaneous human desire for nature, and how this desire is represented in the design of theatrical scenography. This desire is a creative process that reflects the aesthetic expression of nature through its technical elements, with the aim of enhancing the aesthetic experience of biophilia for the recipient, given that theater is considered a mediator between the recipient and nature, and a bridge for translating their sense of natural beauty. The current research consists of four chapters, the first of which includes the methodological framework of the research problem: The research problem is framed by the following question: (What is biophilia and its representations in the design of theatrical scenography?) The importance of the research lies in identifying biophilia and its aesthetic concept, and linking it to theatrical art to expand the scope of the impact of visual simulation on reconstructing the human relationship with nature through design creativity inspired by nature, thus achieving the research objective, which helps identify biophilia and its representations in the design of theatrical scenography. The research boundaries are: the temporal boundary is the year 2002, the spatial boundary is Iraq, and the thematic boundary is the study of biophilia and its representations in the scenography of a theatrical performance, with the play "The Handkerchief" as a model. The second chapter (the theoretical framework) consists of two sections that focus on the study of biophilia in terms of concept and its representation in the design of theatrical scenography. The chapter concludes with indicators of the theoretical framework. The third chapter presents the research procedures, while the fourth chapter includes the results and conclusions, including: Biophilia is represented in the scenography of the theatrical performance by conveying a stimulating theatrical image to the recipient's mood by feeding them with elements of direct and indirect diversity that mimic the natural environment. The scenography elements in the biophilic theatrical performance contributed to creating a collective visual image by taking into account the desire to interact with nature and other life forms. The chapter then concludes with a list of sources.
