Abstract

This study focused on the issue of intellectual terrorism in terms of its content, clarifying the motives and reasons behind the growing prevalence of this negative phenomenon, as well as highlighting its most significant manifestations. The study also emphasized the responsibility of the family in confronting intellectual terrorism, and the key duties and roles families must undertake to protect their children from falling into extremist thinking and aligning with it, steering them instead toward rational thought and sound judgment.

Accordingly, the first section addressed the linguistic and terminological definitions of the concept of intellectual terrorism. Most definitions under this concept agree that it refers to deviation or divergence from the social or legal norms that govern individual behavior in society. Such deviation can range from an act that society deems inappropriate to one that constitutes a crime punishable by law.

In the second section, we discussed the driving causes behind the emergence of intellectual terrorism. The third section focused on the main manifestations and forms of intellectual terrorism, such as (intolerance of opinion, extremism and fanaticism, spreading rumors in society, and hastily passing moral judgments on others). Finally, the fourth and last section addressed the responsibility of the Iraqi family in combating intellectual terrorism and how to activate its role as the primary social institution responsible for raising individuals, instilling ethical and social values, shaping their personality, and developing their moral conscience.
