Atiga and its appearances in the Arabic theatrical text (a play called Nouba, a return for example)
Main Article Content
Abstract
Ethics represents a fundamental branch of philosophy and constitutes a vital element in shaping the intellectual and aesthetic structures of any creative work. This research is divided into four chapters. Chapter One (The Methodological Framework) addresses the central research question: What are the manifestations of ethics in the Arabic dramatic text, with the play "Nubat Rujoo’" as a case study? The study focuses on analyzing this play, which engages with existential and ideological conflicts while elevating the role of individual conscience in confronting dominant socio-political norms. The play provides a rich analytical space for exploring how ethical values are embedded within the dramatic structure. The research seeks to examine the relationship between moral intention and theatrical language, and to deconstruct the symbolic function of characters and dramatic situations, as well as their impact on the audience. The chapter concludes with a definition of key terms.
Chapter Two (The Theoretical Framework) includes two sections: the first explores ethics conceptually, while the second examines the presence of ethics in both global and Arabic dramatic literature. The chapter concludes with a set of theoretical indicators. Chapter Three outlines the research procedures, with the sample being purposefully selected. The study adopts the descriptive-analytical method and draws upon the indicators established in the theoretical framework. Chapter Four presents the analysis and yields several findings, among which:
- The play "Nubat Rujoo’" offers a re-reading of history through a moral lens, with the character of Jalilah bint Murrah embodying the tension between loyalty and ethical duty on the one hand, and revenge and retribution on the other.
- The ethical dimension emerges in the characters’ decisions, particularly in how Jalilah deals with the legacy of war and tribal conflict, reflecting the dialectic of good and evil within a complex social framework.
Key conclusions of the research include:
- Theater serves as an effective medium for promoting moral values, fostering ethical and spiritual awareness, and acting as a tool for refining public taste and cultural consciousness.
- Ethics governs human behavior and aims to guide individuals toward virtue, positioning ethics and law as complementary forces in the pursuit of a stable and civilized society.
